I didn't receive a starter kit with my Sisterlocks installation, after spending $1000 for two Sisterlock installations I should be entitled to it, but that's another blog post for another day.  Since my installation on September 26, 2011, I've used 'Tingle Shampoo' by Rasta Locks every two weeks.  I create a 1 part shampoo to 4 parts water mixture in a spray bottle, braid and band, saturate my hair with water and spray the shampoo and water mixture onto my hair.  It suds up real nice, has a tingling sensation and leaves my scalp feeling clean.  I find that it's fairly easy to rinse out.  I haven't had an issue with any shampoo residue or any product left in my hair post rinsing.  The price is reasonable compared to other advertised lock or natural hair shampoos.  I purchased mine at the Natural Hair Show in Atlanta back in September for $3.00.  I've seen it on sale in local beauty supply stores from $4 - $6.  I also find that it makes my hair 'rough' in texture, which I've been told will help my hair lock faster.  If you've tried Tingle Shampoo comment and let me know how you like it.

Tea Tree Oil...

I'm 3 weeks post loc installation and my daughter is 1 week post installation. My daughter runs cross country at her middle school and I play on a ALTA tennis team. After exercising I spray our scalp with tea tree oil and water before showering. Here's how it works...

Materials:
Desert Essence 100% Australian Tea Tree Oil
One 2 Fl oz spray bottle (empty)
Water

How to make the mixture:
Fill the spray bottle 6/8th's full (leave room for the oil and mixing). Put 2 drops of oil into the water bottle. Replace the cap on the spray bottle and shake.

How to apply:
Before getting into the shower, spray your entire scalp ONLY with the tea tree oil/water mixture. Do not spray your locs, only your scalp. You can massage your scalp if you'd like, although it's not necessary. If your locs are newly installed wear a plastic cap while you're showering, if your locs are mature you can skip the cap. Shower with the water as hot as you can stand it. So not rinse your hair. The steam from the shower will open your pores and the tea tree oil will go to work.

Tea tree oil is a natural Antiseptic, antifungal, Antibacterial and antiviral. The tea tree oil water spray does not replace your regular wash, but it is an effective scalp cleanser, antiseptic in between washes. Tea tree oil is an essential oil so I wouldn't recommend daily use as it 'could' cause buildup. I also wouldn't use undiluted tea tree oil on my scalp or hair.

If you decide to try the tea tree oil mixture comment and tell me how it works for you.

My Sisterlocks (TM) were installed September 25, 2011, in a record-making 9 hours.  My loctician is Calla Johnson and let me tell you people, she is nothing short of gifted.  My hair straight is probably about 9" to 10" long.  From reading blogs of other sisters and conversing with friends I was expecting a locking session of two 8 hour days.  I was amazed to go 6 hours on Sept. 25th and only 3 hours on Sept 26th.

I have 400+ Large and Medium Sized Sisterlocks (TM).

Locking was the best decision I've made in a really long time.  I was so ecstatic with my locs, my 11-year-old daughter decided to join the sisterhood as well and got her locs installed two weeks later, on Oct. 6th.
